Ode to Pari, Parichehr Traub

Dec .6th, 2007

By Bahereh

Today is Dec. 6th, 2007. I have received our monthly American Baha’i in the mail. While looking through the newspaper, I came across a name under the Memoriam section: Parichehr Traub, Nashville, TN, Sept. 18th, 2007. My heart dropped! And I saw a car-wreck. Then I tried to convince myself although this combination of name is not very common, but let’s say that Pari still lives in Pittsburg, KS, and this was another person who happened to have the very same name. But I knew that a few years ago, we mailed Christmas card to their address in KS, and was returned. What if it was her?

Then of course I started my online search, finally I came across a webpage with many entries, and a few of them were Jim and Pari’s signature, there were their entries as late as May 2007. Also I saw their boys names, and their daughter, Juliet’s signature, the site was: http://www.nafeh.com/baby/main.php?screen=home&section=gb

Then I came across Juliet’s site, now a beautiful young lady, which proved that they were moved to Nashville, TN.

I was still  in disbelief and wanted to believe that perhaps I am mistaking the name in the American Baha’i  for my old friend’s name, Pari whom I knew from Iran, and whom I associated with her and her family while in Midwest. Unfortunately a few minutes ago I came across http://www.morningsun.net/stories/092507/obi_202557394.shtml and I realized that indeed I have lost a dear friend in a car accident, and my fear was confirmed. Another hole in my heart!  It was her, Pari, my old dear friend, and the sadness swallowed my whole being.

Her name is Pari (Parichehr Traub). Who is she? She is Pari meaning Fairy, and Parichehr means whom has a Fairylike face. And indeed she lived up to her name!

It was shortly after Walter and I were married on Feb. 2nd, 1985 that we happened to have a small Baha’i  event in our small house in Ginger Blue, MO. It was a Sat. and I had to go to work at a nearby beauty shop where I found a job in a small rural part of MO. Called: NOEL. Then I called home in the middle of the day and Walter said: Guess what? I said: What? He said there is an Iranian Baha’i lady here, her name is Pari, and as soon as she saw your photograph in the living room, she said: I know this woman! And Walter had said that this is my wife’s picture. She had said that I know her from Iran, her name is Bahereh,

isn’t it? Walter had said: Yes. She had said that I know her from Pars College in Tehran, Iran where both of us attended college!

As soon as I got home we met face to face! I must admit that I did not remember her as well as she remembered me, but nevertheless we became best friends. At that time she and her husband, Jim, had 3 children, a girl called: Juliet, and two boys, Jamal and Jay. Jim and Pari, both Baha’is, were met each other in Africa, got married, and now were in Pittsburg, Ks. an 1 /1/2 drive from Ginger Blue, MO. Jim and Walter were fishermen, and that was enough to keep them together, although they and we had a whole lot more in common! Our friendship continued and flourished as the time passed by! And when my dear beloved mother passed on shortly in Nov. 1989 shortly after Sienna Mae war arrived, who did I go to be consoled by? My dear friend, Pari!

<>One day we went to an event at their house in Pittsburg, KS. Pari asked us to stay, we looked at each other and said that we were not planning to stay, so we don’t have anything with us, she said that I can borrow her clothes and Walter can borrow from Jim, and for toothbrushes, she said that we can go to ALDIS store! She said: Do you ever go to ALDIS store, and of course I heard it: Do you ever go to ALL THESE STORES? I said: we go to some of them, which ones are you talking about? You get the joke, after a few back and forth words, I learned about ALDIS STORE! Where we got our toothbrushes that night!

A year later, Walter and I ended up in Pittsburg, Ks. where we both attended the Univ. and of course our friendship with Traub family flourished! We saw each other quite often, and that was great! Their home was open to strangers and friends alike, and they were kind to Walter and I, and also to our dear daughter, Heather, when she came for a visit.

We went to Alfred, NY for one year, 1987-1988. When we ended up back to Midwest, somewhat to our own surprise, we decided to drive to Jim and Pari’s and surprise them! Oh boy, we were all surprised!!! We knocked on the door, the door opened, and there came Pari 9 months pregnant! We were surprised, and of course she was surprised to see us because by this time, we (Walter and I) were supposed to be in Portugal and then to the island of Macao off the coast of China! This is another long story of Walter and I’s life!

A few weeks later, Jesse Riaz was born to Traub’s family!

Traub family and my family knew each other long ago when we lived in Midwest. We lived in MO. For a few years off and on from 1985 to 1992,  and also in Pittsburg, Kansas for a year in the 1980’s.  We (Bahereh, Walter, and Sienna Mae) moved in Summer 1992 to PA. My baby girl, Sienna Mae now is in college. The web-site is:www.moravian.edu/journals07 Then just click on her picture!

I remember Jim and Pari’s children quite well. When we met, they had Juliet, Jamal, and Jay, and after a few years, Jesse Riaz came along, and a year later on Oct. 10th, 1989 my little Sienna Mae was born, I spent only one night at the hospital and by next day I came home. Pari found out and she drove 1 ½ hrs. from Pittsburg, Ks. And came to our home in Ginger Blue, MO. As long as I live, I would never forget Pari’s kindness that day!

Her melodic and kind voice will always ring in my ears, her joyful spirit, her positive outlook on life, and her open face stays with me as long as I live!

Today, I went through my old photo albums and I reminisce over the good old days with Traub  family, and then I searched through the old family videos and found our old get togethers on the video as well.

May her beautiful spirit rest in Peace, and my she rest joyously in Abha Kingdom!

Good bye my friend until I see you again! I would never forget you my friend!

My love and condolences goes to Jim, and the children who are certainly all grown ups now! Now I am trying to find Jim’s and their children’s addresses. I must reconnect with them, my family of 3, Walter, Sienna Mae, and I, must reconnect with them. I had no idea that they had moved to Nashville. We simply lost contact a few years ago.

Dear Jim, Juliet, Jamal, Jay, and Jesse Riaz,

Allah’u-Abha!

In Sympathy:

Here is your old friends, Bahereh, Walter, and Sienna Mae. The news about the passing of our beloved friend, your dear wife and mother, has reached us. We are so sorry to hear this news but we all know that she is safe in Abha Kingdom! I read somewhere:

 Imagine the beauty of it-

That moment when the soul

of a loved one

returns to the stars.

the voices each whispering, I remember you.

We are thinking of you in this time of sorrow, we all have many fond memories from our dear Pari, and we pray that these memories and your deep faith give you strength to keep her close and to carry on with your life as well.

Jim, it was wonderful to hear your voice last Sunday, I am sorry that we had to re-connect in this way, but perhaps that was the way that it was supposed to be. Please come visit us any time, and of course all of you are always welcome in our home! And guess what? There is a house for sale just next door! I will send you a link to this side-yard house shortly! We are looking for some home-front Baha’i pioneers in this town!

Love always,

Bahereh

“Guns with no roses!”

Guns with no roses!

I have lived in this country of United States of America for 28 years, nearly half of my life, and I still do not understand this fact that many people legally own guns in this country, and they can easily obtain them.  It simply is mind boggling to me. I know what the answer is, it is that they have it for protection, and I also hear more often than not that people kill people and not the guns. If one simply looks at what is happening all around us, then the answer is clear, how many more school and street shooting do we need to have before we realize that it is not safe for people to carry guns. It is often used inappropriately, and it often hurts someone.

And another thing is that we as adults need to learn to solve our differences in a mature adult civilized manner in order for the young to learn from our actions. This is just as true when there happens to be disagreements among individuals or groups of people or on a national and also on international levels.

“Act of Terrorism”

By Bahereh      Oct. 22nd, 2007

What is an act of terrorism?

I turned the TV on this morning and I heard more bad news. The news was that a fellow sailor overseas had shot two fellow sailors and then had shot himself, then the reporter went on to say that it is confirmed that this was not an act of terrorism!

Come on people, what is an act of terrorism, and it does not matter a bit as what the nationality or the job of the person or the origin of the name of the person(s) involved happen to be. The name can be John or Mohammad, or anything else, it does not matter.

As far as I am concerned an act of terrorism is when one or a group of people create an environment/ atmosphere of terror, sometimes the terrorist can be like the man who was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing, or others who have done similar acts on 9/11, or many such acts all over the world. And it does not matter if it is done in a small scale or in a big scale. It is the same, isn’t it?
